When booting the DDP after a power failure, you might notice that some volumes will present a red exclamation mark on their icon, which will prevent any connection with the client machines.
This is a preventive mechanism built in the DDP to avoid volumes data corruption after a power failure.
An red exclamation mark on a DDP volume tells you that it is in maintenance mode, as any volume in maintenance mode cannot be mounted, you need to turn off that mode before being able to connect it.
A volume that got in maintenance mode after a power failure must have its filesystem checked, this why you cannot turn off the maintenance mode straight away after a power failure.
To check the filesystem, you must go to the web interface “Verify/Repair” page, select a DDP volume that shows the exclamation mark and click the “Verify” button. Please do not click on any other button while the verify process checks the volume, it can take up to two minutes to complete. Once the verify is finished, the logs shows up in the output window as shown below:
If the output shows that the volume appears to be ok, please do not click on the “Repair” button and simply click the “Maintenance Off” button to be able to connect the volume.
The verify process can sometimes correct some minor filesystem errors, however if it eventually considers that the volume is ok, there is no need to repair it.
When the output indicates that the filesystem is in any other status, please click the “Repair” button. It is important to use the repair function only in case of problems as the process is making slightly heavier operations and takes a few minutes to complete.
Even-though the DDP put volumes in maintenance mode after a power failure, it doesn’t mean that all volumes will be in that mode when booting up the DDP.
You must run the verify tool (and repair tool if necessary) on all volumes with exclamations marks before being able to switch the maintenance off and connect them to your client machines.
If the volume cannot be checked/repaired please contact our team.
